In the Midst of Difficulties

Sometimes the thing that keeps us from seeing the things that we hope for manifest can be the stronghold of our own thoughts. After several months of praying over a certain issue and seeing no results, the Lord gave me an inside look at what the problem was.

He showed me my thought foundation in a very symbolic way. First He showed me my fingernails and they had almost all fallen off. The fingernails were like my foundation for expectancy. Underneath the nails, on the nail bed, the skin of my fingers was all black.

The Holy Spirit was showing me the problem that was causing no results was the constant negative thinking. The Lord is teaching me how to become optimistic about His goodness. Then He showed me that He has allowed me to go through a difficult situation so that I would learn to lean my thoughts into what He says and oppose the difficulty with His promises to provide because miracles thrive in impossible-seeming situations.

My thought foundation needed to be secure in trusting His words and not the fears of distrusting Him to take care of me. It is like the beautifully adorned sea glass. At first, it begins as the sharp and broken glass but after it is tossed by the waves for a time, the glass is transformed into a gorgeous gem of the sea. Sometimes the storms of life are allowed so that we will learn to lean into Jesus and develop a new foundation of trusting Him as our Source of confidence. God teaches us how to turn the curses into blessings, by leaning into His word as our way of thinking.

With faith nothing is impossible and God has promised that if we ask Him for anything in prayer, that He will do it…if we believe and do not doubt. My problem was my expectancy to trust Him was broken somewhere along the road and my thoughts would gravitate towards fear instead of hope. I would pray and confess His promises, but in my heart, I didn’t trust Him to do good for me. When difficulties came, I would end up as a heap on the floor sobbing and drowning in depression.

If we will look up at His promises and not doubt His willingness and certainty to answer our requests, then a whole new world to His goodness becomes opened. This morning, I started out my day in a panic with prayer and cries to God. Before I was even to the place of sunken self-pity and anguish, I received an email from a friend that was a very positive prayer. It was so positive that it could have been written by Daddy God Himself. This delightful prayer ended with the words, “today is going to be great!”.

I believe what God has promised is a far better option than the difficulties that are happening. So when hard things come, instead of giving in to the grief of the situation, speak God’s word over yourself instead. Challenge the opposition with your faith and confidence in God. He will show up in accordance with your trust and your foundation will be ready to receive unprecedented miracles of His intentional love. Friends, today is going to be great, so don’t let that negative problem fool you. Think about your promised blessings and everything will change around you. God bless you!

To send a blessing:

I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.
